Presence at upcoming conferences and events update: Manga in a postdigital environment

Beyond the already posted upcoming conferences and events, we are very happy to report that we will be introducing the JVMG project at VI Foro Internacional de Creación en la Frontera: Manga in a postdigital environment, to be held May 30-31 in Pontevedra and organized by dx5 digital_&_graphic_art_research at the Facultad de Bellas Artes, Universidade de Vigo.

Introducing the JVMG project at DeDeCo 2022

Most of the time we are busy presenting our work on the JVMG project to various scholarly communities, and it is a rare chance to be able to talk about our work to the fans of Japanese visual media, whose work we ultimately rely on. Thus, we were happy to accept the invitation from the organizers of DeDeCo 2022 to present at their Manga/Anime/Japan-Fans targeted convention. The fact that this event marked the 10th anniversary of the DeDeCo convention series made the experience all the more special.

Presenting at PCA/ACA 2022

The Popular Culture Association‘s (formerly the Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association) 2022 National Conference offered a four day program brimming over with topics and presentations from Disney Studies to Grateful Dead and Stephen King research to Vampire Studies, from Gender Studies to Ecology & Culture to Disability Studies to research on fans, fashion, film, games, music and much more. We participated in the Asian Popular Culture area of the conference, which had five sessions in total.

Presence at upcoming conferences and other events, 2022 April – June

Here are the upcoming events that members of our team will be attending:

PCA/ACA 2022, April 13-16, online
The Popular Culture Association (formally the Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association) hosts the largest conference in the US on the field. We are presenting a paper that started from one of the tiny use cases.

DeDeCo 2022, April 22-24, Dresden
DeDeCo is a national convention for fans of Japanese visual media. While the convention focusses mainly on fan activities like cosplay competitions and the opportunity to shop for rare media and imported goods, it also has panels and workshops for discussion and exchange of ideas. We are invited to present our research project and will be present in the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning sessions.

Presenting at the 8th annual conference of the “Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum” Association

Last week we participated in DHd2022: Kulturen des digitalen Gedächtnisses (Cultures of digital memory), the 8th annual conference of the “Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum” Association organized by the University of Potsdam and Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. This is the biggest annual German language conference on digital humanities, and we were very happy to be able to present our work on the JVMG project here. It was also an opportunity to meet and reconnect with members of the Graphen & Netzwerke working group, whose 6th International Conference “Graphs and Networks in the Humanities: Technologies, Models, Analyses, and Visualizations” we had attended last month.

Presence at upcoming conferences and workshops, 2021 December – 2022 March

As we’ve already written in our previous blogpost on our planned participation in events, we will be at DADH 2021 and ICADL 2021 in the upcoming two weeks:

In early February next year, although we will not be presenting our work, we are excited for the opportunity to attend GNH 2022, featuring the conference theme “Knowledge Graphs and Reasoning – Promises, Potentials, and Pitfalls.” We look forward to the opportunity to learn about similar projects, and get in touch with the many people working on knowledge graphs in the humanities:

Then in March we will be presenting the JVMG project in German at DHd in Potsdam, which will be an excellent opportunity to continue the stimulating discussions we began with members of the the two working groups Graphen & Netzwerke and Digitales Publizieren at the Pimp your publication: Potenzielle Einsatzszenarien von Graphentechnologien im digitalen Publizieren workshop in April of this year (see our blogpost on the event):
