On the 26th of May we took part in the second Culture Futures Incubator event of the Culture Futures Lab at LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore titled Hacking the Asian Waves: Shaping Cultural Flows in the Global Cultural Imagination organized by Natalia Grincheva. The gorgeous looking and insight-packed Incubator Report is now available online.
The event featured three sprints alongside each other. Sprint one was Where Dragons Wander. Remediating Chinese Motifs through VR led by Benedict Yu and Amber Yin. Sprint two was Will the Korean Wave Crash? Traversing (Anti-) Hallyu Geographies headed by Natalia Grincheva. And sprint three was our collaboration with Sheuo Hui Gan – combining her theoretical framework of the ‘Visual Clash’ with a space of possible characters based on the JVMG knowledge graph – titled Visual Clash: Remaking the Everyday through Anime’s Grammar led by Sheuo Hui Gan, Magnus Pfeffer and Zoltan Kacsuk (see the slides for the introduction to our contribution below). We also had Roslynn Ang join us as a facilitator for our sprint, as well as Christopher Zysik as an intrepid participant, both of whom also provided expert insights for our sprint alongside Kania Arini Sukotjo – all of which can be found in the Incubator Report.
